SIGN-UP TO VOLUNTEER OR MENTOR
WHERE AND WHEN WILL I MENTOR?
You Set the Time: Mentees need reinforcement and access to their mentor. If your schedule doesn’t allow you to make a weekly commitment, you can co-mentor with another individual and see your student during your specified and agreed upon schedule..
School Based: You will meet with your student on school grounds, at a time that is convenient to both the student and you
Becoming a Volunteer or Mentor
WHAT DO MENTORS DO?
Mentors motivate, encourage, advise, coach, listen, tutor, and guide. They show students that a community of people care about their future. Mentors helps students establish a positive outlook and stable personal relationships, develop life skills, set career and life goals, improve interpersonal skills and increase self-esteem. Mentors help young people succeed in school and in life by sharing their experience and talents.
Try a Multiple Mentorship: If you're new to mentorship, we suggest you partnering with a friend, co-worker or family member that may also be interested or have experience in mentorship. It's a great way for you all to learn from each other. Having more than one mentor will widen the knowledge of the person being mentored, build a connection between the group of you and play up to each person's strengths.
What Do Volunteers Do?
Volunteers can take on a variety of tasks. There are unlimited ways being of service can help a student, a school and a community. You can be a yoga instructor, classroom helper, tutor, lunchroom monitor, or you can help us prepare grant proposals, lead letter-writing campaigns, or provide administrative assistance, hold a workshop, teach a trade or technical program, or simply volunteer to speak at career day.
Whatever your talents and interests, we'll match you to tasks and events that will keep you just as engaged as the students you'll reach. It's important to Chatham Academy that our volunteers and mentors feel appreciated and enjoy the service they donate to our students.
